Top 5 Wild Places to Visit in Cornwall

There's something magical about disconnecting from the digital world and immersing yourself in nature's symphony. Cornwall, with its dramatic coastlines, ancient woodlands, and diverse ecosystems, offers the perfect backdrop for those seeking to reconnect with the natural world. Here are five extraordinary places where you can experience Cornwall's natural places, all within easy reach of Heligan Caravan and Camping Park.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Take advantage of your exclusive discount at these beautiful gardens right on your doorstep. The Lost Gardens of Heligan tell a story of natural regeneration and conservation success. As you wander through 200 acres of this restored paradise, listen to the soundtrack of robins and blackbirds in the ancient woodlands. Sit among the wildflower meadows as they buzz with the gentle hum of bees and butterflies, and look out for native species.

Little ones will love the outdoor play park with giant pillow, the resident farm animals, and searching for the famous mud maid hidden among the trees.

Pentewan Valley Trail

This enchanting route winds along a mainly flat, 3½ mile trail through the valley and nearby woodland. Take a leisurely walk or cycle, taking in the nearby riverbank and former railway line, accessible directly from our park. Once a bustling trainline, nature has reclaimed its space along this route, with kingfishers darting across the stream and deer glimpsed between the trees. The trail leads to Pentewan beach, and our sister park, or you can continue on to the beautiful harbour town of Mevagissey.

Golitha Falls

Nestled in an ancient oak woodland on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, Golitha Falls is a place brimming with history and mythical tales. Explore the River Fowey tumbling through a wooded gorge, and bathe in the dappled sunlight through the canopy of trees. The sounds of birdsong and tumbling streams are sure to drown out any remnants of the modern world. Nature lovers will enjoy spotting the rare species of moss and lichen that thrive in this humid microclimate, and the distinctive calls of native birds.

Caerhays Castle and Gardens

Famous for its magnolias and camellias, Caerhays offers more than just cultivated beauty. Explore this ancient castle, uncover the history of the estate, watch the local farm animals graze over the rolling hills, and walk down to the local beach, where rock pools teem with marine life at low tide.

Cardinham Woods

A spectacular 650-acre woodland paradise managed by Forestry England, Cardinham Woods offers miles of peaceful trails through diverse forest environments. The Lady Vale Walk follows a bubbling stream where local birds can often be spotted feeding and taking a bath. In spring, the woodland floor becomes a carpet of dazzling bluebells, while autumn brings a spectacular display of colourful fungi.
